Grits cookies

Juicy Arabic cookies, the recipe is from the book Arab cooking

Preparation steps

  • Beat the egg whites until stiff. Beat the egg yolks with 100 g of sugar and when the mass is light and frothy, add the vanilla aroma and lightly stir in the snow.
  • Soften the butter, mix the baking powder in a little warm water and add the butter. All together we add to the egg mass, mix, add oil and then gradually giz (semolina).
  • From the dough, form balls the size of walnuts, roll them in the rest of the sugar and arrange them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Bake at 180 degrees for about 20 minutes.
  • While the cookies are baking, prepare the syrup. Boil water, sugar and orange juice. While each cookie is still lukewarm, pour a spoonful of syrup over it and when it absorbs the liquid, decorate it with chocolate or on top of each imprint an almond or hazelnut.
